Kaneohe Bay, HI, Thursday, July 24, 2010 – Winning an ocean race like the Pacific Cup requires skill, but also some luck. Unlike many previous years where a boat performance was key, this year was more of a chess match, with luck and weather analysis making a big difference. Everyone in the fleet sailed south of the rhumb line for the first third of the race, but those who remained south suffered severely.

Seven more boats have finished since yesterday’s report. Rapture, cruiser Gregory Newman’s Caliber 40LRC Sloop-Cutter, arrived shortly before midnight on Tuesday. And with the arrival of Monika Maajewska’s Seacraft 37, Knopkierre, at dawn, all boats in the Holo Holo division are now at KYC exchanging stories of adventure, fishing, and even taking a dip in the water during doldrum days in the Pacific high.

It’s been a busy day (and night) at the finish line of the 2014 Pacific Cup race now that the wind has filled in again. Winning isn't Everything

Kaneohe Bay, HI, July 22, 2014 – Winning an ocean race feels great, but three boats – MirageThirsty, and Free Bowl of Soup – are competing in the 2014 Pacific Cup race from San Francisco Bay to Hawaii with a goal more rewarding than just coming in ahead of the other competitors.
