Seven more boats have finished since yesterday’s report. Rapture, cruiser Gregory Newman’s Caliber 40LRC Sloop-Cutter, arrived shortly before midnight on Tuesday. And with the arrival of Monika Maajewska’s Seacraft 37, Knopkierre, at dawn, all boats in the Holo Holo division are now at KYC exchanging stories of adventure, fishing, and even taking a dip in the water during doldrum days in the Pacific high.
Gypsy Lady, Val Clayton’s Cal 34b MK1, and Europa, Alex Samodurov’s New York 36, both in the Alaska Airlines division, both arrived in the early hours of July 23. One boat in this division, Blue Mist, remains at sea but is expected to arrive on Thursday, July 24.
In the ‘Iwi Double-Handed Division, Absinthe, Dan Nitake’s boat double-handed with Tony English, crossed the finish line at 02:05. Kaos, the last of the SC 27s in this division, owned by James Parker and double-handing with John Mason, arrived after daybreak. This division still has one boat at sea, ‘Lil Angel, also scheduled to finish on Thursday.
Late in the morning Rick Waltonsmith’s Transit of Venus, was first of the two multihulls to finish. The other Kolea Multihull Division boat, Humdinger, should arrive early on Thursday.
The last, and probably the most anticipated arrival of the day was Tiburon, the SC 37 that lost her rudder mid-race a week ago. Tiburon, who retired from the race after receiving outside assistance from Michael Moradzadeh's Cayenne, sailed into Kaneohe Bay under two headsails while using her boom as an emergency steering device.
Two boats not listed above, Bob Johnston’s J/92, Ragtime!, which retired from the race several days ago after spending too much time in light air, and Cecile Schwedes’ C&C 40 Tall Rig, Aeriagnie, are estimated to arrive after the Awards Dinner on Friday, July 25. Regardless of when a boat finished, the volunteers at Kaneohe Yacht Club will be there to welcome them.
