It’s been a busy day (and night) at the finish line of the 2014 Pacific Cup race now that the wind has filled in again. The boats finishing on Tuesday, July 22 were, in order of finish: VALIS, Paul Elliott’s Pacific Seacraft 44; Red Cloud, Don Ahrens’ Farr 36; Avion, Thomas Abbott’s Bianca 44; Terremoto, William Weinstein’s water-ballasted Riptide 35 from Seattle; Bernard Debbasch’s Nolo Nolo Division cruiser Med Viking, a Beneteau 411; Blue Crush, Eric Devaney’s J 109 from San Diego; Mirage, the Santa Cruz 27 raced by father-daughter team Stan Perkins and Kerry Hallyburton; Cayenne, Michael Morazadeh’s Passport 40 and Shoofly, Thomas Palmatier’s Custom Barrett Offshore 41.
We’re delighted to report that Dean Treadway’s Farr 36, Sweet Okole, that lost her rudder two days ago and retired from the race, arrived this morning. And Giant Slayer, the Santa Cruz 27 double-handed by David Garman and Dave Martin, which reported yesterday that they had lost their mast in a squall (just after their 100 mile check-in) but were still racing, finished this evening flying a storm sail on a jury rigged mast constructed from two spinnaker poles and other bits.
The majority of competitors have now finished, and all but a few of the boats still at sea are expected to finish tomorrow – including the first boat in the Hokulea Multihull Division.
