Be ready before you head out. This year we’ve organized an Advanced First Aid/ CPR for Mariners course offering on December 14-15, 2019 (18 hours) in Alameda.  This seminar is offered by Back Country Medical Guides

PacCup participants get a good discount, and the CPR/ 1st Aid portion is accredited by US Sailing to fulfill the requirements to race (not required for Pac Cup but advised). The course offers a deeper dive into all aspects of Maritime and Emergency Medicine, is active and practical, and specifically designed for sailors like yourselves.

The 50th Transpac race is safely put to bed. It was, by all accounts and our personal experience, a great run to the islands. With a large number of entries there were, of course, a number of incidents. Several boats had turnbacks out of prudence, and one, we were sorry to learn, was lost (all souls rescued by Disney and crew on Pyewacket).

Of course, we had quite an overlap between Transpac crews and Pac Cup crews and boats. Some of us can't quite get enough!  An observation: one way to get your boat on the podium seemed to be to have a Pac Cup board member aboard:

It's "Katie bar the door" here at Pac Cup central.  Starting with "the Boss" just before noon, and continuing through Jason Vannice, we got a record 11 entries in our first day. Interestingly the first and most recent entries are both J/35's.

In the "we eat our own cooking" category, we see entries by Vice Commodore Melinda Erkelens on her and Bill's new-to-them Hobie 33 "Sleeping Dragon", and newest Staff Commodore Buzz Blackett's yet-to-be-completed 'io, a carbon Antrim 27 under construction.
