With one-quarter of this year’s Pacific Cup fleet in its two double-handed divisions and many talented sailors, the competition is expected to be close. For two husband-and-wife teams ─ Bill and Melinda Erkelens, and Jim Quanci and Mary Lovely ─ this year’s race brings together fond memories of previous races and the challenges of a repeat performance.

Establishing a week of partying and events before a race to Hawaii is definitely something of a gamble – especially with all the time demands prior to a long ocean race – but the 2014 Pacific Cup seems to have come up with a winner.

It's all Happening at the Village

We're already gathering, and the banners are flying.  All in anticipation of the 2014 Pre-Race activities at the Pacific Cup Village.

Our team has assembled a week (or more) of activities, entertainment, and gatherings.  Whichever day or days you attend, you're assured a great time. All Participants, Friends, Supporters, and Spectators are invited.

Nearly half the fleet is forecast to be tied up at our docks, battle flags flying and crew executing final preparations (while trying to look nonchalant about it.) To help them, we've got shuttles (provided by sponsor

Point Richmond, CA, July 18, 2014 – The Pacific Cup Village (PCV), a week of festivities and logistic support before the 2014 Pacific Cup race, opens at Richmond Yacht Club on June 30th and will run through July 5th. New this year, the Village, a partnership between the Pacific Yacht Club (PCYC) and the Richmond Yacht Club (RYC), was created to promote the friendly socializing for which the “Fun Race to Hawaii” is famous and assist competitors with last minute preparations.
