All hands! One thing that makes Pacific Cup different from other major ocean races is our extensive support for our participants, including our seminars (the "Pacific Offshore Academy").

Our first seminar will take place October 9 at Richmond Yacht Club. It'll focus on some of the longer lead-time items you'll need to plan for to have your boat in ocean-ready condition. These will include presentations by experts and race veterans as well as breakout small group discussions to get detailed advice and answers to your questions.

The agenda and speaker lineup are subject to change; here's the

Our Environment of the Sea Committee has asked to share the news of what promises to be a rollicking (if virtual) fundraiser for International Bird Rescue.

From the site: "Our Groovy Gathering is a funky, fun choose-your-own adventure on Zoom. This is not another boring webinar. You're invited to interact and explore - be inspired by a keynote speaker, play trivia games, hear short stories of hope and tenacity, socialize at a virtual bar, view silent auction items close up, and much more! *And* if you provide your mailing address, you will get a party kit in the mail to help you get your

There's nothing like pent-up demand. With the cancellation of the 2020 race due to COVID, a significant number of our entrants simply rolled their entries over to 2022. Add to that a healthy dose of new and returning racers from prior years, and we have a very complete entry line.

Until about a week ago, it was looking like an "old school" Pac Cup. Heavy on the 40-ish foot boats, with a larger than usual (21) share of double-handed entries.

Then WHAM! A flurry of classic and modern racing sleds showed up, likely turning the (presumed) ORR-1 and -2 divisions into a downhill drag race.  Let's take a look at the recent entries:

  • Pyewacket 70, Roy Disney's Volvo 70. Welcome back! Pyewacket, of course, curtailed their last Pacific Race to carry out a valiant rescue of a sinking boat.
  • Zvi, RP 55, Alan Lubner from Seattle
  • Sonic, TP52, Marek Omilian, also
