Safety is First

Safety is the first word in our preparations. Recently, the news and web have been abuzz with emergencies at sea, from a family with a medical issue, to a crew overboard, to a missing jetliner. Each of these cases highlights the importance of communication, planning, proper gear, and rescue services, as well as the paramount value of avoiding emergencies in the first place.

Proper preparation includes training, and for our ocean races, that means a USSailing certified Safety at Sea seminar.  These are mandatory for a portion of the crew, and recommended for the entire crew.  Pac Cup is sponsoring one on May 18. Moderated by Chuck Hawley, this is a great way to get a lot of needed information.  Register now, price will go up shortly.

Note to coastal racers: you are welcome at this seminar, but many more local races only require the Coastal SAS seminar April 13 at the Boat Show in Oakland.  

WEATHER seminar at boat show:

Designed for the offshore racer, including Pac Cup, a weather seminar by Lee Chesneau will also be at the boat show April 13.  This is good information, since weather is, after all, what moves your boat!

There are also rumors of a MaiTai party for past and present pac cuppers and those considering the race.  We'll share that information when we get it!
