Thank you to all the participants in the Pacific Cup Photo Contest! The images submitted give those of us on land a glimpse into the journeys. As with all photo contests, the judging was challenging, but the winners were chosen based on the technical quality of the photo (e.g. sharpness, exposure), composition, and general interest. You can see the complete set at the contest gallery, as well as full-sized versions of the images below.

The winners in each category are:

Abstract – The Erkelens, Wolfpack, for their abstract of the Supermoon. Maybe they didn’t envision the grainy, low resolution shot as an abstract, but a black and white print will be stunning.

Crew Portrait – Synthia Petroka, Aero, for her images of her crewmates driving, and navigating.

Fish Story – Free Bowl of Soup, for their Big Fish / Little Fish shot.

This was probably the most challenging category since there were so many fish shots – so for this category we have a runner up – Greg Norman, Rapture.

Half-way Party – Neal Holmlund, Shoofly. The photos tell a story of a fun celebration.

Notable Sunrise or Sunset – Free Bowl of Soup, for the view through the wheel. Great composition!

Onboard Life – Michael Chobotov, Venture, for his from- and in-the-water shots while becalmed.

Oops! Moment – Gary Troxel, Tiki Blue for showing how to improvise a whisker pole.

Spinnaker Shot – Tom Abbott, Avion – nice composition and lighting looking up at the kite and main, with fluffy clouds in the background.

Unique Perspective – Stuart Hooper, Coyote, for his extraordinary drone shots.

And finally, the Rockskipper Grand Prize goes to Karl Robrock, Snafu. Karl’s Cloud Series were the most consistently sharp, well exposed, and compositionally compelling images received.

Each winner receives a custom 11” x 14” print of their winning image, subject to sufficient image resolution for enlargement. Substitutions from the Rockskipper Galleries are allowed.
