Reinrag2, Locura J World's Hula Girl, California Condor, Hana Ho, Swazik Finish!
Six boats have finished since yesterday afternoon – all arriving in the dark, and some in pouring rain and thunderstorms. Reinrag2, racing with five family members aboard, finished Saturday night at an unofficial time of 21:23:36.
Shortly after midnight, Locura, Hector Valarde’s Nelson/Marek 92, the first Sunday finisher and the last boat in the Latitude 38 Division to arrive, crossed the finish line.
J World's Hula Girl, the Santa Cruz 50 skippered by Wayne Zittel, finished soon after with an unofficial time of 1:07 HDT.
Buzz Blackett’s California Condor, an Antrim Class 40 was the first boat to finish in the Kolea Double-handed Division. Sailing with the boat’s designer, Jim Antrim, this was an especially happy arrival since Condor was damaged by debris in the 2012 Pacific Cup and lost both rudders in the 2010 race.
At dawn Hana Ho, the other Santa Cruz 50 in the race, skippered by Mark Dowdy, arrived, followed shortly by Swazik, a Swan 45, skippered by Sebastian de Halleux.
Families and photographers are happily anticipating some daylight finishes later today – Surprise, Koh-Ring and Wolfpack.
Bob Johnston, skipper of Ragtime!, a J/ 92 that had taken a very southerly, light wind route, retired from the race yesterday so he could turn on the engine and join his family at the Kaneohe Yacht Club. The events at KYC are pretty irresistible -- and the party is starting!
