The big and bigger dogs in the Sonnen BMW and Latitude 38 divisions are starting to work their way through the back of the Tuesday starters, bringing the wind with them. Monday’s starters are still in the penalty box, and are no doubt sending offerings to the wind gods. The three Cal 40’s, Green Buffalo, California Girl, and Azure are all lined up within a band 10 miles wide, about 1300 miles from Kaneohe waiting for the race to restart. The half way party is now just a memory for the cruisers leading the fleets – Venture and Koh-ring.
The lightweight boats appear to be performing better in the light winds – with Wolfpack, Sweet Okole and Por Favor leading their divisions, and the Moore 24, Snafu, holding on to first place in their division and overall PHRF.
In spite of the ominous predictions for the Latitude 38 division boats that started on Friday, it looks like it was actually the best day to start as the overall leaderboard belongs almost exclusively to them, with Roy Disney’s Pyewacket first in Division, Rating and Overall – but it’s too early to tell if she will beat the lead cruiser, Venture, for line honors.
There’s good news in the most recent forecasts - the high is finally moving north, and all boat should see good breeze on Monday. The attached forcast chart is for 8pm PDT Tuesday.
